EMALCA EN SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR (30/05- 09/06/2011)
The EMALCA at San Salvador took place at the Auditorium of the Departamento de Matematicas of the Escuela de Matemática de la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y MatemáticaUniversidad de El Salvador, from May 30-th to June 9-th of 2011.
Academic activities consisted of three courses of 16 teaching hours each, namely Markov Chains by Stella Brassesco, from Centro Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, Caracas, Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations by Christian Schaerer, from Universidad Nacional de Asunción, Paraguay, and Dynamical Systems, by Enrique Pujals, from Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), in Rio de Janeiro.
There were also lectures by the organizers Teresinha J. Stuchi (Instituto de Física, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro) and Marcos Raydan (Universidad Simón Bolivar, Caracas) as well as Alfredo Iusem, from Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), in Rio de Janeiro.
The participants came from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela and El Salvador.
As a consequence of the EMALCA, all of the organizers and teachers have received enquiries from several students expressing their interest in applying for graduate programs in various Latin-American institutions, and also in summer programs (e.g. at IMPA).
