Program Outline and Requirements for Universities

IMU/ CDC welcomes applications by universities and mathematics degree programs in the developing world that are in need of, and can provide the necessary conditions for productive collaboration in the teaching of advanced mathematics.

We seek universities interested to host a lecturer for intensive 3-4 week mathematics courses, at the advanced undergraduate or master level. All costs of the lecturer will be covered by IMU/ CDC or its partner agencies, the host university will have no financial obligations toward the lecturer.

Conditions for the Host University

  • The lecturer should be assisted by a local mathematics professor who prepares the students beforehand, assists when necessary during the course, and takes care of any necessary follow-up.
  • These courses should have a student audience of 15-20 or more, be controlled with examinations, and be part of a regular degree program at the university at which they are offered.

Institutions Requesting a Lecturer

The CDC database of volunteers contains a large list of the mathematicians willing to volunteer and including the mathematician's curriculum vitae (CV), the areas of mathematics in which they are prepared to teach, language abilities, typical dates of availability, and previous experience.

The CDC administrator will send the log in for the database as soon as the questionnaire form for mathematics institutions has been send and you will be asked to indicate three preferences for lecturers.

Application Forms

Universities/ Mathematics Institutions in the developing world who are interested in hosting lecturers need to fill out the University Request for a Volunteer Lecturer.

"I am most thankful for your contribution towards properly operationalizing our MCCSE programs. Your proposal that we come up with an annual NMAIST conference series is wonderful, and meets my full support. We feel greatly honoured by your stay with us here at NM-AIST, and I am happy to note that you are pleased to be part of the NM-AIST Family."
Burton LM Mwamila, Vice Chancellor NM AIST-Arusha, one of the VLP Host Institutions in 2011
