The following schedule outlines the progression of the development of the FWDM since 2004:
Work to Date
December 2004
Prototype completed, searchable for names with wildcards, but with limited post-processing or duplicate removal.
April 2005
FWDM shown to EC, with requests for the EC to establish FWDM guidelines for the inclusion of electronic online lists.
September 2005
Beta version, with searches over the following existing major directories:
- Combined Membership List (AMS/MAA/SIAM/CMS/AWM/ )
- Germany (DMV)
- France (annuaire de la communauté mathématique francaise)
- Canada (CAIMS/CMS/SMC/SSC)
- Australia (Academy of Science)
January 2006
Decisions about continuation, further development, and extension of the FWDM project.
August 2006
A functioning version for the initial lists, with additional search engines developed since the original project proposal. These include:
- Austria (Österreichische Mathematische Gesellschaft)
- Portugal (Portugese Directory of Mathematicians - PDM)
- Electronic World Directory of Mathematicians (EWDM)

Four year cycle used to stabilize and expand FWDM. Investigations of enhancements (listing home pages, searching by institutions, ).
