Costa Rica

Some years ago Angel Ruiz was appointed by the Minister of Education of Costa Rica to design a new Math curriculum for all years of primary and secondary school. Angel Ruiz commanded a team of around 10 math researchers an in-service educators who worked very hard since 2010. Angel Ruiz presented a proposal in 2011 August and last March a refined one with the inclusion of hundreds of recommendations from different institutions mainly universities.

In May 2012, the new curriculum was approved by the National Board of Education (a body of 7 former ministers of education, specialists and union representatives). Now begins another stage, very difficult, to implement the new curriculum with a lot of teacher preparation and creating many useful resources. Angel Ruiz was appointed to command this new stage for at least 3 years.
