With the revision of its Terms of Reference made in 2009, ICMI has introduced the notion of affiliation to ICMI of multi-national societies active in mathematics education. This has resolved the long-felt need of formalising the links of ICMI with various bodies sharing common aims with the Commission.
The multi-national Mathematics Education Sciety currently affiliated to ICMI, with its year of affiliation, is:
- CIAEM: Inter-American Committee on Mathematics Education (2009)
- CIEAEM: International Commission for the Study and Improvement of Mathematics Teaching (2010)
- ERME: European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (2010)
- MERGA: Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (2011)
