Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize for Applications of Mathematics 2006

IMU President John Ball presents the
Gauss medal to Kiyosi It&ocirc at a special
ceremony on September 14, 2006 in Kyoto.
Here is Kiyosi It&ocirc's "thank you speech".

The Gauss Prize was presented to Junko Itô, the youngest daughter of the recipient, by King Juan Carlos of Spain. Kiyosi It&ocirc could not attend the award ceremony for health reasons. Martin Grötschel, chair of the Gauss Prize Committee, announced the winner with a Power Point presentation [also available in PDF]. Before the Gauss Prize Lecture, that Hans Föllmer (HU Berlin) presented on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, Junko Itô read Kiyosi Itô's short "thank you speech" [also available in PDF].
