B.2 Plenary Lectures

At the recommendation of the Program Committee, appointed by the International Mathematical Union (IMU), the Organizing Committee has invited 21 mathematicians to give one-hour Plenary Lectures. The names of the speakers, together with their affiliations and fields of research, and the titles of the Plenary Lectures are listed below. The Plenary Lectures will inform participants of major developments, problems, and trends in mathematics.

The IMU General Assembly, the Program Committee, and the Organizing Committee have emphasized that these lectures should be comprehensible to a wide spectrum of mathematicians. All plenary speakers have agreed to prepare addresses for a general mathematical audience.

The first Plenary Lecture will be given by J. Moser and will be delivered in the afternoon of the opening day at the International Congress Center. The other addresses will be given in the Auditorium Maximum (lecture hall H 105) of the TU Berlin. The Auditorium Maximum has a capacity of 1200 seats. The talks will also be shown in an adjoining lecture hall via closed-circuit television, so that an audience of more than 2000 people can be reached.
