ICM'98

MATHEMATICS CARTOONS - Colloquium Posters by Karl H. Hofmann

The Mathematics Library of the Technical University Berlin is not only interesting because of its ample holdings of books and journals in mathematics, but also for being the venue of frequent art exhibitions. On the occasion of the ICM'98, the librarians Dr. Iris Hahnemann and Bärbel Erler present a "Mathematical Art Exhibit": more than 30 originals and numerous photographs of posters designed by Karl Heinrich Hofmann for the Darmstadt Mathematical Colloquium-all of them funny, amusing, and attractive illustrations of the mathematical topics of colloquium lectures. Hofmann is a member of the faculty of the mathematics department of Darmstadt University of Technology and an adjunct member of the faculty of Tulane University in New Orleans.
