IMU-CDC is supporting three Ph.D. students of the Doctoral School of Pure Mathematics, in Brazzaville, Congo during the period September 1st, 2015- June 30th, 2016.
Africa in general and Congo in particular, has a very small number of teachers and researchers in mathematics. In the University of Brazzaville, and those of many countries in the Africa, teachers lack in the field of pure mathematics, especially geometry and algebra. With the support of the European Union through the EDULINK project, twenty students were trained DEA level (2010, 2011, 2012) in the fields of geometry, algebra, analysis and statistics. This training was conducted as part of a joint master between Marien Ngouabi University Brazzaville (Congo) and the University of Kinshasa (DR Congo). These two towns are separated by a river: the Congo River.The first phase of this project (consisting of training students at Masters level) is has been finalized; a second phase of this project was launched: the creation of a doctoral program in pure mathematics for the formation of at least 10 PHD in 4 years. This phase will not be support by EDULINK. Fourteen (14) of these students prepare their doctorate with varying degrees of difficulty. The University of Brazzaville currently has the support of fellow teachers from the Universities of Poitiers, Bordeaux and Orléans in France. Marien Ngouabi University of Congo supports each time, their transport and accommodation costs for stays in Brazzaville.
CDC is supporting three students for the realization of their thesis. Those students, who are advanced enough in their work, will travel to Poitiers and Bordeaux (France) to finalize their doctoral thesis in 2016. These students have already submitted articles for publication.
