CDC at ICM 2026: Advancing Mathematics in the Global South Through Collaboration
The event, hosted by the International Mathematical Union (IMU)’s Commission for Developing Countries (CDC) as part of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026 in Philadelphia (July 23-30, 2026), aims to highlight the importance of supporting mathematical development in the Global South through collaboration.
The gathering aims to bring together grantees, institutional partners, donors, and mathematicians around the world, and showcase ongoing efforts, share impactful personal narratives, and encourage support across partners.
Through personal stories, poster presentations, and stakeholder dialogue, the event will shine a light on both the challenges and opportunities in advancing mathematics in developing countries.
The 2026 theme, “Mathematical Collaboration in the Global South and Creating Opportunities,” emphasizes the transformative role of partnership and shared vision. By fostering connections among individuals, institutions, and regions, IMU CDC aims to expand access, build capacity, and support growth in mathematical education and research.
This event will provide a platform for individuals and institutions to present their contributions, while also encouraging networking and collaboration across communities. Together, participants will explore how meaningful cooperation can address local challenges and strengthen the global mathematical landscape.
The event will take place on one afternoon between July 23 and July 30, 2026, and is expected to last approximately 2–3 hours.
