CDC Activity at ICM 2026

Mathematical Collaboration in the Global South and Creating Opportunities

Date: 28 July 2026
Location: ICM, Philadelphia, USA
Time: 4:45-7:15 PM

The event, hosted by the International Mathematical Union's Commission for Developing Countries (CDC) as part of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026 in Philadelphia (July 23-30, 2026), highlighted the importance of supporting mathematical development in the Global South through collaboration.

The gathering brought together grantees, institutional partners, donors, and mathematicians around the world, and showcased ongoing efforts, shared impactful personal narratives, and encouraged support across partners.

Through personal stories, poster presentations, and stakeholder dialogue, the event highlighted both the challenges and opportunities in advancing mathematics in developing countries.

The 2026 theme, “Mathematical Collaboration in the Global South and Creating Opportunities,” emphasized the transformative role of partnership and shared vision. By fostering connections among individuals, institutions, and regions, IMU CDC expands access, builds capacity, and supports growth in mathematical education and research.
