Hear from our Simons Research Fellowship grantees!

2024 Simons Research Fellows

"Honestly, the research was beneficial on all levels. I met all my colleagues and their students, I revised a paper which was subsequently accepted, I submitted an article, I almost developed a whole new work with them, I discussed quite a bit on the continuation of our work. Being there in front of them saved me a lot of time."

Abdennasser Chekroun, Algeria

"The funding of my scientific stay provided entirely by the IMU-Simons project is a great opportunity for me as a researcher to develop my scientific career and build strong relationships with the scientific committee abroad. My research stay from May 15 to June 14, 2024 in Lille was very enjoyable and scientifically fruitful, revealing many questions and research topics that I hope to continue exploring in a future return visit and to benefit from this collaboration that will allow me
and to my team in Monastir to make considerable progress in our research work and to build further relationships with the scientific community at the University of Lille."

Brahim Alouini, Tunisia

"The IMU-Simons grant allowed me to complete work in progress, initiate new projects that are now at different stages and also devise new lines of future collaboration. I particularly benefited from in person interaction with both colleagues and students.

In addition, signing the grant contract several months in advance permitted a careful programming of the visit, which contributed greatly to these achievements."

Claudia Ledermann, Argentina

"The IMU-CDC grant played a pivotal role in the success of this research. The funding provided essential support for publishing high-impact research findings. Without the generous support of the IMU-CDC grant, this research would not have been possible. Additionally, it has allowed me to connect with colleagues and explore new projects."

Hicham Kasri, Algeria

"The Simon program gives me a lot of opportunities to develop my collaboration with researchers from Morroco. I have been in touch with many experts of my area research coming from the world to visit the department of mathematics of Cadi ayyad. I will be better prepared and have new ideas for my task and my international interaction will help me to enrich my knowledge and the amount of new challenging problems to work on. It will be easy for me to keep the contact with many international leading researchers who can suggest new trends to work and investigate on. All these benefits will not only be for me, but for my university and in the end for my country and the whole world."

Mamadou Abdoul Diop, Senegal

"The grant has greatly contributed to the success of my research by enabling my visit to the University of the Free State, where I worked closely with Prof. Tomas Vetrik. Through this support, we successfully achieved the goals of our proposed project, submitted one article for publication, and are finalizing another. This visit also helped me to expand my research experience, strengthen my international collaboration, and enhance my academic development. I am truly grateful for the opportunity provided by the IMU-Simons program and would be very happy to be considered for similar grants in the future to continue advancing my research career."

Mesfin Masre Legese, Ethiopia

"The grant provided essential support that enabled focused and productive research in collaboration with Acad. Stefan Ivanov and his collaborations. It allowed for intensive joint work, and participation in seminars and discussions that significantly deepened the quality of the research. The resulting progress would not have been possible without this support."

Milan Zlantanovic, Serbia

"The grant has provided me with the invaluable freedom to concentrate fully on my research, free from the financial limitations that might have otherwise hindered my progress. As a result, we are now in the process of preparing our manuscript for submission to a peer-reviewed journal. I am confident that the findings from this work will significantly contribute to the field of Mathematics. I am deeply grateful for this support, as it has been essential to the success of my research, and I look forward to continuing to build on the advancements I have made."

Mulugeta Alemayehu Dagnaw, Ethiopia

"The grant has had a significant impact on my research. I have completed one paper, and I am currently working on another. I also engaged with some staff at the host university regarding collaboration and the supervision of master's and PhD students. Additionally, I met with staff at the University of Auckland to discuss further research opportunities with a PhD candidate."

Sion Pea, Fiji

"I am confident that this grant will significantly impact my academic career. During the visit, I obtained new scientific results that will form the foundation of my doctoral dissertation. Additionally, the professor raised new issues that will enable me to continue our scientific collaboration. Moving forward, I am committed to actively pursuing my research and aim to defend my doctoral thesis in the coming years."

Sobirjon Shoyimardonov, Uzbekistan

"The grant contributed immensely to the success of my research. Research in Africa is hampered by many problems ranging from lack of resources to lack of time."

Victor Mooto Nawa, Zambia

"Thanks to the IMU-Simons Research Fellowship grant program for mathematics researchers from developing countries, I was able to take one month off from teaching duties to focus entirely on research. During this period, I collaborated with Professor Olivier Goubet at the Paul Painlevé Laboratory in Lille. Our joint work has led to promising results that we plan to submit for publication very soon. In addition to providing precious research time, the grant also offered valuable financial support, for which I am sincerely grateful."
