Host Institution - How to apply for a Course Grant

Only Host Institutions can apply for a grant.

Please follow the steps below to apply for a Volunteer Lecturer Grant.

Step 1: Finding a volunteer

  1. The host institution has to find an international volunteer lecturer who is able und willing to teach the requested course. The lecturer has to hold a PhD in the mathematical sciences and be employed in a university as a lecturer in the mathematical sciences (or governmental or industrial positions with a focus on the mathematical sciences and strong teaching experience). The lecturer should have finished his/ her PhD at least 4 (four) years before he/ she serves as a CDC VLP lecturer. The volunteers should return after their VLP course has finished to their home institutions. The lecturers CV should clearly demonstrate a strong academic and professional background, with substantial teaching and research experience relevant to the VLP-course applied for.
  2. The volunteer lecturer and host institution agree on the tentative dates and course content, local living arrangements and expected total local costs (accommodation, visa cost, vaccination if necessary and basic living costs).
  3. The host institution sends an official letter of invitation to the volunteer lecturer. The invitation letter has to be signed by the head of the mathematics department of the host university.
  4. The volunteer lecturer signs the Travel Reimbursement and Insurance Information Form and sends it together with a CV to the host institution.

If the host institution does not know an international lecturer who could teach the requested course, the host institution can contact the CDC Secretary for Policy via email.

Note: The CDC had maintained a Volunteer Lecturer Database of the mathematicians interested in volunteering.  The  Database is not updated anymore and registration is not possible. If you have questions, please contact CDC Grants Administration.

Step 2: Applying for the Grant to cover the costs of the volunteer:

The host institution has to apply for the VLP grant via an online application form and to upload the following documents (in pdf format) and information:

Step 3: Evaluation of Application by the CDC

The CDC sub-committee for the Volunteer Lecturer Program will evaluate the complete applications received by each deadline and inform the host institution about the outcome of the application.

Afterwards the Host Institution has to follow up with the volunteer lecturer and arrange the visit and the course.

Step 4: If the funding is approved by the CDC - VLP

  1. Travel Permission: The volunteers should obtain final permission to travel from his/ her home institution.
  2. Transfer of funds: CDC will contact the lecturer for his/ her bank details and CDC will transfer the funds to the lecturer.

  4. Local Assistant: At least two weeks before the schedule volunteer lecturer course the host institution informs the lecturer about the local assistance (mathematics professor) who prepares the students beforehand, assists the volunteer lecturer when necessary during the course, and takes care of any necessary follow-up and puts both into contact.
  5. REPORT: After the volunteer lecture period the host institution has to submit an online report about his/her experience and evaluation including a copy of the receipts of flight cost, vaccination, visa cost, accommodation, health insurance and outreach activities). They also have to upload at least 4 pictures from the visit for the CDC website. The cost for living cost and local public transport is covered with the daily allowance and receipts are not necessary.
