The CEIC is a standing committee of the Executive Committee (EC) of the International Mathematical Union, reviewed every four years by the EC at its meeting preceding that of the IMU General Assembly. It was founded in 1998 to accompany the change in publishing and communication among scientists in the digital age and to provide recommendations for the future. Since then, its mission has been updated regularly to take into account new developments.
