The Mathematical Society of Senegal (Société Mathématique du Sénégal – SMS) is the IMU Adhering Organization.
The ICMI Country Representative for Senegal is the President of the Senegalese National Mathematics Commission. This commission is composed of representatives from all Senegalese entities involved in mathematics education: general inspectors of education and training (IGEF), higher education teachers representing the mathematics departments of Senegalese universities, secondary school inspectors, trainers from regional education staff training centers (CRFPE), and middle and high school teachers.
APROMATH (Association of Mathematics Teachers of Senegal) is a new association created on September 2023 that brings together the existing associations of mathematics teachers, namely APAMS and SOS Mathématiques. Moreover, Senegal is part of the Association of African Didacticians of Mathematics (ADIMA) a regional network for mathematics education within Western and North Africa.
ADiMA aims to promote mathematics education in Western and North African countries, to meet the challenges facing the African continent in terms of research and to bring their communities closer together.
Senegal is also part of the first Capacity and Network Project of ICMI (CANP1)
Senegal is finally a member of the French Speaking Mathematical Space (Espace Mathématique Francophone – EMF) an ICMI affiliate Organization that promote mathematics Education in French Speaking countries and organizes regular research conferences.
The Research Institute for the Teaching of Mathematics, Physics and Technology based in the University Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar (IREMPT) promotes research in Mathematics, Sciences and Technologies Education.
The Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Science and Technologies of Education and Training of University Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar (FASTEF) provides initial and continuing training for secondary and middle school mathematics teachers, as well as training for mathematics inspectors. There is classroom-based training, which is accessed through competitive examination, and distance learning, which is accessed through ministerial authorization.
The department of Education, Training and Sport Sciences Teaching and Research in University Gaston Berger in Saint-Louis (UFR-SEFS) provides initial training for Middle school teachers in Mathematics-Life and Earth Sciences and Mathematics-Computer Science.
The Regional Training Centers for Education (CRFPE) provides continuing education for secondary school mathematics teachers and middle school teachers of mathematics, life and earth sciences, and mathematics, physics and chemistry. Each region of Senegal has a CRFPE.
The Research Institute for the Teaching of Mathematics, Physics and Technology (IREMPT) is a dynamic space dedicated to educational innovation, teaching research and the dissemination of mathematics, physical sciences and technology. Its mission includes contributing to the initial and continuing training of primary, middle, secondary and higher education teachers in order to strengthen their professional practices.
The National syllabus and Standard are hosted on the website of the General Inspectorate of Education and Training, which is currently under construction.
