More about the IMU Archive here.

The ICMI Archive collects historical documents of the ICMI Executive Committee in the form of letters to IMU officials since World War II or in digital form today, as well as ICMI publications, and even artefacts as pins or caps from ICME’s. With the establishment of the IMU Secretariat in 2011, all archival material have been located in Berlin, Germany.

If you would like to use the IMU/ICMI Archive, please first have a look at the current “Finding Aids”:
Hierarchical thesaurus - Topics on the IMU and its commissions and committees.
Tectonic – Structure of the IMU Archive into subfonds, series and files.

A long-term storage strategy has been implemented for the IMU/ ICMI archive to safeguard the growing email archive and digital documents. Additionally, pictures, books and artefacts enrich the collection of the ICMI Archive. However, there are still gaps in the inventory.

The work of the IMU Archivist is supported by two archive curators, one for the IMU and one for ICMI. Their articles were recently published in the EMS Magazine and give an insight into ICMI's involvement with the archive, as well as about memorabilia from past ICMs, as examples of the IMU Archive collections.

The ICMI Archive serves to support the work of the ICMI Executive Committee. The material is also available for historical research. Some documents, such as those concerning ICMI prizes, are subject to certain restrictions.

ICMI is in the process of publishing/ open access of documents produced by ICMI or on the occasion of the various activities organized under its auspices. This includes the Proceedings of all the ICME congresses (LINK), the volumes resulting from the ICMI Studies (LINK).

Interested persons or organizations are invited to support the collection of the ICMI Archive by offering documents, photos, books, or other material, in digital as well as analogue representation, which may fill gaps in the documentation of the history of the ICMI and its commissions and committees.

Please contact the IMU Archivist for any requests or information on ICMI historic material via email
