We hope that the book will be of some interest for your library.
The volume contains the proceedings of the Symposium held in Rome on March 5th -8th 2008 at Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and l’Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana to celebrate the centennial of the ICMI (International Commission on Mathematical Instruction). The volume represents an important contribution to the discussion on mathematics education: starting out from a historical analysis of the principal themes regarding the activities of the ICMI (curricular overviews, teacher training, relations with mathematical research and applications, and so on), the future directions of research in mathematics education are identified and the possible action to be taken to improve the level of mathematical culture in the various countries.
