Report on XIV Congreso Antonio Monteiro held at the National University of the South, Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina 31 May —02 June 2017

The Congress Dr. Antonia Monteiro is held every two years, and each time has the theme in a different area of mathematics: algebra, analysis, logic, geometry, applied mathematics, probability and statistics. The 14th edition was dedicated to the area of Logic. The main objective of the meetings was to promote the participation of mathematicians, not necessarily specialists in the chosen subject, from Argentina and from neighboring to encourage interaction between them.

The following conferences were selected in 2014 for a conference grant.

Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians from Developing Countries 2015

05-01-2015.pngIt is our pleasure to announce that the winner of the 2015 Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians from Developing Countries is Dr. Amalendu Krishna of India’s Tata Institute for Fundamental Research.

The prize is in recognition of  Krishna's outstanding contributions in the area of algebraic K-theory, algebraic cycles and the theory of motives.

He visited the Department of Mathematics, University of Memphis from 5th Jan 2015 to 5th March 2015. During this period he gave a Colloquium talk entitled 'Almost isometric ideals in Banach spaces'. He also gave a talk in the Analysis seminar, entitled,'On a theorem of Shintani and Ando'. He had regular research interactions with Professor F Botelho of the Department of Mathematics. They collaborated on the algebraic reflexivity problem for operator ideals and obtained some positive results.

His visit was conducted under the subject “Profinite groups: endomorphisms, automorphisms, profinite completions and applications” and was partially supported by a grant from the Simons Foundation. Prof. David Moldavanskii was his main host-contact.
During this period, the main activities consisted of:

-      A presentation of the research problems: the aim here was to introduce the subject and create contact and interaction with Lecturers, M. Sc. and Ph. D. students.
