There are three main series of conferences organized on a regular basis by ICMI or under its auspices.

The International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME)

A major event in the life of the international mathematical education community, the quadrennial ICME is held under the auspices of ICMI and typically gathers more than three thousand participants from all over the world.

ICMI Studies

Each ICMI Study addresses an issue or topic of particular significance in contemporary mathematical education, and is conducted by an international team of leading scholars and practitioners in that domain appointed by the Executive Committee of ICMI. Each ICMI Study has an international conference associated with it. Beyond the productive interaction and collaborations occasioned by this event, the main product is a Study volume, which aims to offer a coherent, state-of-the-art representation of the domain of the Study. It is these Study volumes that constitute the New ICMI Study Series (NISS).

ICMI Symposium on: Mathematics Education and the Socio-Ecological

ICMI hosted a one-day online symposium on 20th March 2023 (GMT), to act as a gathering point for scholars
working in what might be diverse areas, but whose concerns could be broadly grouped together as “socioecological”.
The aims of the symposium were:
- To gather the “state of the art” of socio-ecological research from around the world and engage in
dialogue across perspectives.
- To explore the different ways in which a theorization of the socio-ecological influences the focus and
methodological approach of mathematics education research.
- To consider practical implications of socio-ecological research for school/university curriculum and
pedagogy, education outside formal structures, teacher preparation, and policy.

To cater for participants in different time zones, two symposia were  held, with an overlapping Plenary talk.

The program of the symposium can be found here.

The proceedings are accessible here.

ICMI Regional Conferences

The Commission offers moral and sometimes financial support to facilitate the organization of regional meetings on mathematical education, especially in less affluent parts of the world.  Many of these ICMI Regional Conferences are taking place at regular intervals.

Other ICMI conferences

In addition to above activities of a regular nature, ICMI takes other initiatives on an ad hoc basis.
