The principal aims of ICMI Study-21 Conference are:

Award recognises distinguished contribution to science or mathematics education
The first ever “Royal Society Kavli Education Medal??? has been awarded to Professor Celia Hoyles from the London Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, University of London. The Medal, established by agreement with the Kavli Foundation, will be made biennially in recognition of a distinguished contribution made by an individual to science or mathematics education.
After a 6 month delay caused by the volcano eruption, the ICMI Study 20 Conference began in Lisbon, Portugal, and it will last till Friday, October 15.

With the help of UNESCO, but also of IMU, ICMI and CIMPA, we have presented the Maths exhibition in 2 countries, Senegal and Benin in 2009 and Burkina-Faso in 2010.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Prof. Dra. Alicia Villar from Uruguay, a former vice-president of IACME-CIAEM, the Interamerican Committee on Mathematics Education, an organization affiliated to ICMI (from 1999 to 2003).

February 1, 2011 was a great day for IMU and ICMI and CDC. After a lengthy but very productive process, we are all going to have a permanent office and will not need any more to carry all the papers and documents all over the world from the office of one President or Secretary General to the next one.
