Data base of good practices to reduce the gender gap in science

Addressing the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is a major goal of many countries. Initiatives established to meet this challenge are broad ranging from intervention programs in primary, secondary and tertiary education to industry-based interventions targeted at the workplace

The Gender Gap in Science Project collates a sample of these initiatives using an online database so that users will be able to access information about a variety of initiatives that aim to address the gender gap in Science and Mathematics  Please consult the data base here. For the user, the database is essentially a retrieval system that will facilitate a greater understanding of the best practices of gender initiatives.

In the database, you find lots of information on effective practices for enhancing the participation of girls and women in science at all levels. Whether you are a parent, student, teacher or STEM professional, there are lots of STEM opportunities to engage with.

The initiatives are classified using The Science, Technology and Innovation Gender Objectives List (STI GOL)  developed by the UNESCO STEM and Gender Advancement (SAGA) project, slightly modified for the needs ot the  Gender Gap in Science Project.

1: Change perceptions, attitudes, behaviours, social norms and stereotypes towards women in STEM in society

2: Engage girls and young women in STEM primary and secondary education, as well as in technical and vocational education and training

3: Promote access to and retention of women in STEM higher education at all levels

4: Promote gender equality in career progression

5: Promote the gender dimension in research content, practice and agendas

6: Promote gender equality in STEM-related policy-making

7: Promote gender equality in science and technology-based entrepreneurship and innovation activities
