Mathematics in the Southern Cone 2 - Application for 2024

Montevideo
Uruguay

Mathematics in the Southern Cone is a collaboration workshop between researchers on currently unsolved mathematical problems. The focus is on working together to make progress on current problems, rather than simply presenting results as usual. This proposal invites individuals of all genders to participate in the groups, which will be led by female researchers to encourage gender diversity in research leadership and promote the work of female researchers in the region. The workshop is one of the projects approved in CWM call 2023.

Prior to the in-person meeting in Montevideo, teams will work virtually for a semester to prepare for and enhance the in-person meeting (18 to 23 February 2024). After the in-person work in Montevideo, teams will continue to work virtually with the goal of publishing new results in specialized mathematical journals. Articles are expected to be submitted for publication in September 2024.

Teams will consist of 4 to 6 individuals of all genders, with priority given to women who are completing their doctorate or are in postdoctoral stage. The leadership will be in charge of one or two established female mathematicians.

Requirements for applying as a leader include being established as a researcher in a university in a South America country, presenting a proposal in line with the workshop's objectives, leading virtual teamwork from June 2023 to February 2024, being able to attend the workshop week in Montevideo and covering the costs of travel and accommodation, and guiding the writing of an article with the team's results for submission by September 12, 2024.

Interested leaders must complete the form until April 20, 2023.
