There have been 4 CANP Workshops spanning 6 years.
ICMI has been spending a lot of money funding the CANP project. The initial conception had an evaluative component built into each CANP that has not happened in any formal way. Is it cost effective? What else could we do? What could we change?
Our experience so far has shown us that the different regions have responded differently to the CANP opportunity, and that individuals make a huge difference one way or the other.
The ICMI Executive Committee has adopted some basic guidelines and criteria about (minimum) requirements for granting the status of an ICMI Regional Conference to a conference under planning.
Two crucial aspects are that
The First Africa Regional Congress of ICMI on Mathematical Education (AFRICME-1) was hosted by Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, in June 2005. The Proceedings were published by Witwatersrand University (contact Jill Adler).
AFRICME-2 took place at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi, Kenya, on May 23-26, 2007.
Report on the Klein Project (June 2009)
In 2008 IMU and ICMI commissioned a project to revisit the intent of Felix Klein when he wrote Elementary Mathematics from an Advanced Standpoint. That is, to produce a book for secondary teachers that communicates the breadth and vitality of the research discipline of mathematics and connects it to the senior secondary school curriculum.

22 ICMI Studies have been completed and published up till now. One more Study (ICMI Study 23) is in the process.
Two ICMI Studies are currently in process. Twenty-two studies have been completed.
The volumes resulting from the ICMI Studies now appear in the New ICMI Studies Series (NISS) published by Springer under the general editorship of the President and the Secretary-General of ICMI.
